Strategic Intervention Coaching
What is Strategic Intervention?
Strategic Intervention (SI) is a dynamic style of coaching that is dedicated to extracting practical and effective forms of strategic action and communication through a variety of psychological disciplines. The goal is to establish a new tradition within the helping industry to empower coaches, teachers, leaders, and health practitioners to create change in any human systems or social context. Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were examples of masterful Strategic Interventionists.
SI encompasses strategies that span from the belief systems and emotional patterns within an individual, to individual relationships, to group dynamics, to organizational and cultural interventions. A trained SI coach navigates these different arenas with ease.
Strategic Intervention coaching brings a system of change that empowers the client to take daily action in their life. It is through real actions that a client creates the lasting change that they desire. Strategic Intervention believes that all people have the potential to overcome the negative patterns and beliefs that keep them from thriving and reaching their goals.
What distinguishes Strategic Intervention from other forms of life coaching?
A Strategic Intervention coach has gone through extensive training in a variety of disciplines and strategies that allow us to handle all aspects of a person’s life. We are trained to identify a multitude of obstacles that hold people back (such as internal values, communication styles, relationship struggles, emotional patterns, and life stages). From there, we offer strategies or directives to create different results in those areas, whereas many traditional life coaches let the client come up with directives. SI coaches design specific strategies for their client’s situation.
Contrary to most life coaches, who think of the individual without taking into account the social context, we consider all aspects of the individual’s life. For example, a typical life coach may be working with an executive who wants to be better leader, but may not take into account if they happy with their job, or consider the intersection of work and family. An SI coach would explore all of their relationships to work towards professional progress.
What types of coaching strategies does a Strategic Intervention coach use?
The strategies employed by an SI coach are action-based. We create transformation by shifting the client’s mindset, sequences of behaviour, emotions, experiences, relationship dynamics, personal meanings and social context. We also aim to be uplifting and positive; the strategies are not punitive or painful in nature. Instead, we expand the person’s sense of self. We use personalized strategies based on the individual. Additionally, our strategies have no side effects (other than being a happier person)! SI allows you to change your life in a way that is inexpensive, doesn’t take too long, and doesn’t tax your health.
How is Strategic Intervention coaching different from therapy?
Psychotherapy and counselling work within a medical framework, identifying and diagnosing dysfunctions and prescribing treatment. They mainly focus on the past.
SI coaching starts with you, now, and how to take practical steps to make progress towards the goals, relationships, and experiences you want. It begins with the belief that the solutions that the client wants are available to them right now, and that better well-being and happiness comes from taking action. SI coaching is not meant to replace psychotherapy. Rather, it is a distinct, practical approach to supporting clients in the decisions and actions that will support their goals and fulfilment in life.
What can a client expect to improve in their life and relationships as they work with their Strategic Intervention coach?
An SI client can learn more about themselves, including their needs, triggers, safe problems, and key relationships. They learn to shift their mindset to thinking more creatively, while seeing the great potential that exists in all aspects of their life. This allows them to overcome any obstacles and fears that have had limiting effects on having more joy and progress. Most clients also discover areas of opportunity, freeing up energy and initiative, and more insight and harmony with those they care about.
SI is diverse enough to help mostly anyone. It includes goal setting (reverse engineering), communication and conflict-resolution skill building, relationship solutions, peak performance training, meaning-making, and purpose discovery. Strategic Intervention is for anyone who wishes to take creative action towards living a joyful life.
